The Hot Block Story
WD Hot Block was started from our company, Watson Diesel Inc, in 2007. Watson Diesel began building vacuum trucks used in the Marcellus Shale Gas Play in Northeast Pennsylvania. Our customers came to us with the problem of freezing valves when used in our severe winter climate. When we started to investigate options for keeping valves thawed, we found that the only options were to install water heated jackets that use the engine's coolant to warm the area around the valve. Watson Diesel, being a Diesel engine rebuilder for over 20 years, had a hard time with this option given the extreme liability from long runs of coolant hoses and inconsistent cab heat temperature from coolant being robbed from the driver's heater.
Aircraft Technology
WD Hot Block came about as a result of our over 35 years in the diesel industry, paired with our borrowed technology from our friends in the aviation industry. Aircrafts are faced with keeping various components of the turbine engines and instruments from freezing at altitude year round. Combining our diesel engine and aviation experience led to what we believe is the ultimate solution to an age old problem - The WD HOT BLOCK
